In his Teddy Award-winning film, Ray Yeung explores the lives of Pat and Angie, two sixty something women who have weathered life and love’s storms for decades. Their bond anchors Pat’s family, who call them both “aunt.” When Pat’s sudden death shatters their world, mild-mannered Angie faces precarity, with her lover gone and even her home contested. Seeking solace in a group of LGBTQ+ elders who provide comfort and humor, she confronts unraveling relationships and the complexities of Hong Kong’s inheritance laws. Yeung elicits beautifully understated performances, in portraying the precarious lives of older queer individuals, and crafting Angie as a quietly resilient heroine in a nuanced, profoundly moving narrative.
